Door Handles and Aesthetics
While they may initially seem to be a small insignificant aspect of your home, choosing the right door handle can significantly increase the aesthetic appeal of your home. The shape, style and colour can all affect the overall look of your home.
When renovating or building it is imperative that you take into account what door handles you are going to use. The first door handle anybody is going to see when they enter your home is the one affixed to the front door. You may not notice it, but a door handle can complete the overall picture of your door and also give you an element of security. However, with so many types of door handles, handles and fittings to choose from, it can be difficult to know what is best for your front door. When selecting the right door fittings, you want a handle that matches or complements your door style, for example if you have a large old school door, then you should make sure you choose a door handle with a similar style, so as not to clash aesthetics.
If you’re only replacing one, or a few door knobs or handles, then you need to consider how it will look with the remaining door fixtures within your home. In order to ensure a uniform appearance, it is important to keep an eye on these fittings when looking for a new knob. While you are likely to be satisfied with your new doorknob, you should consider the space, style and look you want to achieve, particularly in conjunction with any other fittings that are not being replaced. It would look unappealing if you get brand new fittings and their style directly contrasts the pre-existing ones within your home.
One thing that may seem a simple decision however should be carefully considered, is whether or not you will be going with a door handle or knob. This is mostly dependent on the aesthetic you would like to achieve and where in the house the door is located. However regardless of knob or handle, you must decide whether or not the door requires a locking mechanism.
The typical door knob locking system is simpler than you might think, but there are not that many variations on the locking mechanism, there are still many different options to choose from. Key locks are one of the most common types of doorknobs. These lock on the outside and have a keyhole for unlocking on the inside as well as a button or lever to lock from the inside without a key.
When it comes to door handles, there are some great designs at any price, starting at less than $50 and rattling up to more than $500. This price varies depending on the hardware, the style, the workmanship and the shape of the door handle. Considering these fittings are those on which you put your hand every day, this is something you should carefully consider before making any decisions.
Although paying upwards of five hundred dollars for a set of door fittings could seem expensive, this is the price you would have to pay for something that adds irrefutable aesthetics to your home. However if you wish to go on the cheaper side there are still great options with such value. As long as they meet your requirements there is no reason you shouldn’t choose a cheaper option, so long as it is still somewhat aesthetically pleasing.
